Yom Yerushalayim and Service Days
Shalom!
Blessings and greetings. Sunday was Yom Yerushalayim or Jerusalem Day. This is the day where those in israel celebrate the reunification of the city! We had planned on going to a children’s home, but the people inviting us had to change plans because of the celebration effecting the schedule. We did however get to meet some Israelis from places like Poland. One of them, Sergei, serves in the military and gave a great testimony of what it has been like to be a Messianic Jew in Israel. People have been increasingly interested in Jewish believers in Jesus over the decades and it only continues to expand with large groups of Eastern Europeans and Russians who have come to faith in Israel. We also had one of our team members who studies jewish Studies at Moody Bible College give a brief history of Israel in scripture and how the modern state came to be. It was very helpful in understanding God’s favor in the existence of Israel in modern times, especially in alignment with prophecy in Isaiah 66 speaking of Israel becoming a nation in one day! The nighttime events were fun as well. We went to an outdoor restaurant that had singing and celebration. We then went to Ben Yehudah street where people danced and sang in crowds. Some of our team even joined in both dancing, playing guitar, and singing.
Monday we went to Jaffa and helped some of the Russians who work with Beit Shar Shalom (House of the Prince of Peace). We organized and packed bags of food for the needy and transported them across the city. After taking a train back to Jerusalem we debriefed and rehearsed some of the performances we will do today for Holocaust survivors.
Today will be much of the same. We will do more food bag prep and after that we will go meet and entertain Holocaust survivors in Jaffa and Tel Aviv. Here are some pictures and video from the days prior:
